Our Journey and Mission

Jatelo Foundation Team at Essaba School

“Jatelo” is Luo for “leader” or “one who leads”, often used respectfully to refer to a chief, elder, or influential person.

Luo is spoken primarily by the Luo people of western Kenya, as well as in parts of Uganda and Tanzania.

It carries strong connotations of wisdom, responsibility, and community respect—a great name for a nonprofit focused on empowerment and development.

Jatelo Kenya is a community-driven initiative focused on transforming lives through innovation, technology, and sustainable development. From connecting rural schools areas with internet, to drilling boreholes for clean water, to assisting small farms, and empowering local leadership—our mission is simple: create lasting impact where it’s needed most.
